Falling Skies Season 1 Episode 2 The Armory

Wednesday, 13 July 2011

The new US hit TV show Falling Skies continued last night on FX, the latest episode saw the 2nd Massachusetts group going to a near by armory, in order to get supplies, or guns more importantly.  They ran across some problems on their way one alien to note and then another group of survivors lead by an ex con John Pope (Colin Cunningham), the biker gang don't want to be affiliated in anyway with other survivors and are simply out for their own interests.  They take Tom and his fighters hostage until they agree to hand over the supplies they have back at their camp.  Last week we saw how Tom and his oldest so Hal are doing their best to go rescue Ben, Toms other son who has been captured by the aliens.  Tom has been told by 2nd Massachusetts leader, Commander Weaver he can't go to look for his other son until the armoury has been fully checked for guns.

I'll start with Commander Weaver (Will Patton), a hard ass mutha he really is who's presence on screen is over powering.  He is kind of like a ruthless dictator in a world without rules, his main aim is to keep his Army of 100 fighters cosy and warm with them all getting houses and beds as apposed to the 200 civilians he has under him who all sleep in tents, aren't soldiers trained to sleep in fields and tents?  When Weaver and Tom (Noah Wyle) come together there can be some real tense moments where your eyes are drawn only to them and not what's happening in the background.  The two work really well together on screen but no doubt the hero of the story is going to be Tom.

Back to the ruthless biker gang now, you know?  The ones I mentioned before who took Tom and the other fighters hostage.  This threw a whole new perspective on the story which you initially think is just 600 Humans verses a bunch of aliens, this leads to another interweaving story that now incorporates warring groups of survivors.  All be it the biker gang were killed off at the end of this episode, well all except the leader John Pope.  There is now the possibility that the main characters will encounter more rebel fighters along their travels.  Pope survived as I mentioned and also surviving and joining the 2nd Mass was a girl who's name I cant remember, but she was captured by the rouge gang of bikers also and initially went along with their charade until she seized her opportunity to kill the bikers and free hostages.

I really liked the John Pope character, he has been thrown into a make shift jail at the high school 2nd Mass are using as base.  I get a feeling that his character is really going to grow and become an integral part of the story line in the weeks to come.  He is clearly an intelligent guy who obviously went down the wrong path somewhat, if I was going to match him to someone I would say he is like Lost's Sawyer (he was in jail to remember?).  The lovable rouge who always mucks in when your up the creek without a paddle.  Maybe he and Tom will take over as leaders of the 2nd Mass in time to come, what do you think?

There were a couple of times in the latest episode where I though, come on get on with it.  Just then though the story kicked back into life.  You are going to get that with any TV show as we have discussed here plenty times before, Lost that I mentioned above was like that at times but as all good TV shows do, it had a knack of leaving you wanting more after 50 minutes.  Bearing in mind that this episode was the second hour of the show, Spielberg would normally be wrapping up his motion picture during that time, so they need something else to get you through the series.  One thing to note, you could really tell the budget limits here I didn't notice it last week but the aliens this week are not as good as they were in War Of The Worlds but, still for TV the effects are pretty good.

Edward Norton To Play Villain In The Bourne Legacy

It's been a while since I done any movie news, not because there hasn't been any I've just been busy with the TV and movie reviews of late, the movie news feature is something that will be coming more often as it used to, I just seem to have been busy with other stuff lately.

There has been so much hype surrounding this movie already, and as yet they haven't even started filming it.  Our first thought on it was, who is going to play Jason Bourne?  We quickly learned that this is not an issue for the movie will not star Matt Damon nor will any character in the movie be named Jason Bourne.

We knew that director Tony Gilroy was on the lookout for a big name to be in the movie.  Jake Gyllenhaal, Toby Maguire and Josh Hartnett were all names banded around at the time but have come to nothing more than speculation and rumour.  To now the only stars confirmed for the movie are Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz, so that's a good start I suppose.  Weisz is believed to be involved to play the love interest of the assassin at point and Renner is well up on the spy movie genre with his part in Mission Impossible.

Now we are hearing whispers that Edward Norton is in talks to appear as the villain in the movie.  Norton who does not align himself with many big Hollywood movies would be a welcome addition to the movie and really give The Bourne Legacy it's own identity helping us move on from a franchise that some people believe will not be the same without Matt Damon as Jason Bourne.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 3 I.C.E

Tuesday, 12 July 2011

This show is really starting to turn out better than I expected, you may have noticed it's already crept into the most popular list and at the rate it's going won't be to long in taking over Luther. I have been getting a lot of visits and comments from people who are looking for the various songs that are played throughout this show, so in the interest of keeping everyone happy I'm going to make a note of all the songs I know and research the ones I don't to try and give you some answers.

Rookie technician Rachid found himself of the down side of the Up, Horny Down feeling this week as he attended an address and found a guy hanging up in his shower cubicle along with a suicide note.  This sets of Rachid on thinking that he can't be a bachelor for the rest of his life and decides he wants his lady friend to be a bit more permanent.  Next scene his lady friend pops up from his crotch area to ask him what's wrong as she has been doing it for twenty minutes now and her jaw is going numb, is it really that big?, lucky B......!

Simon was having a dilemma last night to, when he called his "in case of an emergency" number, or "I.C.E" number as they call it.  A guy answers and informs Simon it's not his phone as he stole it out someones bag the week before, that would be the person Simon was hoping to get in touch with.  Not a word is said to the guy, you know?  Like how dare you steal my friends phone for instance, he simply says to the guy "ok sir have a nice day", just then it switches to the guy sitting alone in his flat just about to ingest and overdose on Heroin.  It was funny but maybe you have to see it.

Rachid decides the best way forward for his girlfriend plans would be to invite Sarah (Tuppence Middleton) his lady friend around for what he informs her will be DVD first, sex later.  I'm not sure that's wise, I'm no expert but most would fall asleep during the DVD and that equals no sex, bad times.  Anyway things get a little to serious for Sarah who confirms that she doesn't even like Rachid and was only sleeping with him out of pity, now dumped he is severely down and finally cracks.

Throughout the whole episode he has been haunted by the image of the guy he cut down from the shower, so back at the hospital ER room he finally confirms he has been affected by what he saw, screaming at the guy he thinks is there "f@*k off, and leave me alone", that just so happens to be outside the shrinks office who hears him and offers him in for a chat and a good old cry.

Now like I said at the top I get a lot of people coming here looking for the music that is played in the background, so here goes with what music I knew and could find from last night;

My favourite song of the whole show is the title music, it's by a band or guy, I'm not sure. They or he are called Little Barrie, no I hadn't heard of them either the song is called Surf Hell.

The scene where the guys are in the ambulance, the music is by KT Tunstall and it's called come on get in.

The song at the beginning of the episode when Rachid finds the guy in the shower is by Magnetic Man Ft Katy B and it's called Perfect Stranger.

The song Gangster Trippin by Fatboy Slim was also in the show last night, the scene where Rachid was skateboarding in the back of the ambulance.

The song near the end where the old guy is lying in the bead is called Winter Beats and is sung by I Break Horses.

Shameless US Episode 3

Monday, 11 July 2011

This is weired to say after only three episodes of a new TV show but, I'm getting bored with this one already.  Anyone else?  I would normally watch this on Thursday night and give you the review on Friday, I recorded it last week and am only getting around to the review now having not watched the show until Sunday.  Even then I didn't really want to watch it I just thought I better if I was going to do the review.  Of course you can't base a TV show on one boring episode so I will give it another go this week and I'll go from there.

Sorry guys! She got back with her boyfriend.
Last week the Gallaghers where presented with a bit of a problem, the disability cheque people popped around to see an Aunt, I can't remember her name that's how much attention I was paying.  The lady needed a signature from this aunt as her disability cheques are always being cashed but they don't know who by.  We soon find out that the aunt they want to speak to has been dead for 7 years and Frank (William H Macy) has been cashing the cheque whilst not informing anyone of the auntie's demise.  So most of the show went from there really they visited the local old peoples home and kidnapped one for the week to act as an impostor, they return her days later with no one any the wiser, is that likely?  I don't think so.  Not here in the UK anyway.  The police never even investigated it again not likely, and where was this woman's real family and why were they not worried about her whereabouts?

The youngest Gallagher boy Lip found himself in some trouble this week to, as we know he's gay and last week he fended of the advances of a young girl who's name I can't remember, anyone see a pattern here?  The girl didn't take to kindly to being let down so she decided to get her brother to beat Lip up, unfortunately they couldn't find him so his older brother took the "beat down" as they called it.

Emmy Rossum had her chest out as Glen from 1Man. 365 Movies promised us, that's when she was sleeping with a police officer in his patrol car outside a church full of school children, likely?  Again I don't think so.  As nice as her chest was It's really not enough to make you watch the show every week, at least for me anyway.

Frank is still living with that woman, and no I can't remember her name either, she is the nympho I referred to last week who had Frank walking a little funny following their bedroom antics.  Some of that may be worth watching some more but other than that I think Shameless US may have lost my interest.

Upcoming Movie Trailer: The Inbetweenrs

Ok so as promised this trailer last night but unfortunately Blogger was down so it couldn't be done.  I have a new movie trailer for you now.  The Inbetweeners was a massive comedy TV show over here in the UK running for three years, it went out over in America also and the response must have been noteworthy to make it into a movie, maybe one of my American readers can give me the heads up on that.

The movie should work really well, especially as we already know the characters.  I'M hoping it's not another run at Kevin and Perry Go Large which starred Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke as teenage boys who go to Ibiza on holiday.  The Inbetweeners Movie should be better than this as it's a lot more modern and in line with popular culture among youngsters in the UK, take a look at the trailer below.

Now the trailer looks really promising I hope you agree.  Neil's dance move scene and his motor boating technique look extremely funny.  The holiday resort is Magaluf on the Spanish island of Majorca and the movie will be in cinemas nationwide on August 19th.

Must Have Songs For Your iPod Week 18

Sunday, 10 July 2011

As every Sunday I'm back to give you the heads up on what songs you should be adding to your iPod or MP3 player.  This format is going to change in the next couple of weeks meaning that there will only be two more like this then I'm moving onto specific artists and their songs, hopefully a better way to enable you to find what it is your looking for when landing on the page, any feedback on the current way it's done would be nice.  Do you like it?  is it helpful? does anyone ever add any of the songs to their iPods or MP3?  Let me know in the comments section below. For now though I'll get back to what we normally do and give you some great songs new and old that you need to have on your phone, MP3 or iPod.

First up Maverick Sabre, now there's a name you have not heard before.  Don't worry me neither.  This guy is new to the scene and "Let Me Go" is his breakthrough single.  Sabre is a soul, rap and hip hop artist who was born in London but brought up in Ireland.  He has already been nominated for plenty awards and has also sampled with other artists like Professor Green who are well established here in the UK, his new single is a really catchy soulful R&B record perfect for your relaxing time or maybe your drive home from work.

This next song is a bit of a teaser of what you have to look forward to in a couple of weeks time when the format of this post changes.  The Foo Fighters will feature as the first artists on the new post and their single "Rope" is included in this weeks must have music for you, now that's a big change as it's been a while since I mentioned anyone other than R&B artists here every week.  Enjoy the video below.

Now not to stray to far for the norm this week lets check out the new song from Far East Movement, remember I mentioned them a while back now.  They have a new song out featuring Snoop Dogg, that guys on everything at the minute right?  It's called "If I Was You (OMG)", ok I'll give you that it's not as good as the Foo Fighters but it depends what your into I suppose.

Ok remember I want your feedback on what you think of the way this post is currently put out and the way it's gonna roll in a couple of weeks time, starting with the Foo Fighters remember.  Let me know in the commets below, I'll check back later when I'll also have another movie trailer for us to look at.

The Hangover Movie Review

Saturday, 9 July 2011

I have finally watched this movie as promised to both myself and you guys, I really did not see the point of watching the second one without watching this first.  I have to say I'm pleased I did it has got to be one of the funniest movies I have seen and to say I'm looking forward to the second installment would be an understatement.

Starring: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha

The Plot

Doug (Bartha) is going to be getting married and his friends decide the only way to do the stag party should be in Las Vegas baby.  you have Phil (Cooper) the guy who is married with kids but has a very open outlook on life, Alan (Galifianakis) the brides brother and Stu (Helms) the hen pecked boyfriend who is so under the thumb he has told his girlfriend that the guys are going down to Napa Valley on a wine tasting trip. The guys head to Vegas and end up on a wild night out, waking up they find a Tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closet and the groom Doug has gone missing, the guys then head off on an adventure around Vegas piecing together their movements from the night before.  This of course does not go without a hitch and the guys run into some hilarious problems along the way.

The Verdict

I have to say this is one of the funniest movies I have seen.  I saw Cooper and Helms on the Graham Norton show recently promoting the second movie.  Helms is a real funny guy and the part he plays in this movie is hilarious, throw into the mix the brides creepy brother Alan and you have the recipe for what has been one of the biggest comedy movies of recent times.  I had not really heard of Zach Galifianakis until I watched this movie, I know he also starred in Due Date with Robert Downie Jr, a movie I've not seen but have heard good things about.  The part Galifianakis played in this movie was awesome and for me he definitely provides most of the laughs, that first morning they wake up to find a Tiger in the bathroom has got to be one of the funniest things I have seen the dead pan look on Alan's face has you believing that he is actually that drunk, he later takes a massive right hook from Mike Tyson in what is another extremely funny moment in the movie, and again when they have the gangster in the boot who beats them with a crow bar, ha honestly if you have not seen this movie then trust me you need to get on that.

As well as all the funny moments mentioned above one of the big standout scenes for me is when they all get arrested for stealing a cop car, rather than go to jail they agree to do a kind of show and tell thing with the cops at the local school.  Little did they know they have just agreed to be Tazered, I won't say anymore than that but it is extremely funny and I'm pretty sure that shooting people with live Tazer guns in front of children would be frowned upon, well In England anyway.

Buy the Hangover on Blu Ray and DVD Amazon.com

Would I watch it again?

Without doubt, I will be watching this movie again and like I say I Can't wait to see the second one.

Star rating: *****

American Talent Show The Voice Coming To BBC1

I have heard a couple of things about this show now, first off it was from Ruben (my regular commenter and reader), whilst doing a music post on Cee Lo Green Ruben informed me that the guy was a judge on this show and just so happens to spend his time hitting on the contestants who are way to young for him.

Now news has broke today that BBC have paid £2m for the rights to do a British version of the show.  As well as the US, the show originally went out in Netherlands "the Voice of Holland" earlier this year and was a massive hit.  The US version of the show has a four piece judging panel Cee Lo as I mentioned above, former Disney girl Christina Aguilera, lead singer of Maroon 5 Adam Levine and American country music artist Blake Shelton all star in the show that has been msaking big noise in this corner of the market, the show was maybe cast into a bit of a shadow here in the UK as Simon Cowell was busy sacking Cheryl Cole from the American X Factor.

The show is set up in three diffrent stages and all four of the judges are noteworthy recording artists, the initial auditions are blind and the judges must choose who they want on their team (for want of a better word), from there the show moves onto a battle stage where the rival contestants and judges go head to head with their acts singing the same song and the best going through to the next round.  The show then goes to a live performance section where the vote goes to the public to help decide who will win the show.

The show will aire here in the UK in 2012, meaning that it will not serve up as competition for this years X Factor due to it starting in the next month or so but, if it's an early show next year it is due to go out on a Saturday night meaning that it will go head to head with the next series of Britains Got Talent.  No judges have been confirmed for the show as yet but the obvious names being banded around are former X Factor judges Dannii Minouge and Cheryl Cole.

The American show was won by Javier Colon who was mentored by Adam Levine, you can check out his performance on the show below.

Dexter Season 5 Episode 4 Beauty And The Beast

Poised and ready I was for the 4th episode of Dexter this week following the ending to the 3rd episode last week, things really seemed to be hotting up with Dexter in a world of trouble which would appear to have no way out.  Can't remember then let's remind ourselves, he killed Boyd Fowler a fellow serial killer who dumps containers into a lake which contain the bodies of young women.  Dexter murdered him in his home only for the murder to be witnesses by one of Boyd's hostages.  The cop Quinn (Desmond Harrington) is getting suspicious of Dexter believing him to be Kyle Butler and in order to prove it he needs to get close to Jonah Mitchell who is living in protective custody with the FBI.

Last night I initally thought was a little disappointing but I've had a re think, it wasn't that bad really.  A lot of last nights plot was based around the backing story involving Quinn trying to gain access to witnesses who are in protective custody, he needs to show them the photo of Dexter and have them confirm they believe him to be Kyle Butler.  Quinn made attempts to get to the family through the FBI, however they were unwilling to help as Quinn refused to hand over the picture of Dexter wanting to do it himself.  He is now forced to follow the FBI and identify the safe house himself following the witnesses to a local store where he finally manages to speak to Jonah Mitchell, who does not confirm weather Dexter is Kyle Butler or not before they are interrupted by an FBI agent.

In the mean time Dexter has a dilemma on his hands, he has been out all night and left his son with his new babysitter, who is unfortunately not to understanding of the serial killers predicament.  Lumen, the girl who witnessed him kill Boyd Fowler is trying to escape believing that if she stays Dexter will kill her.  No matter how many assurances he offers up she trys a different trick.  Just a quick side note, I knew I recognised that girl, it's Julia Stiles from the Bourne movies in case your wondering.  Dexter now has a decision to make, with his father keeping thoughts in his head he's not sure weather to kill the witness or let her live.

His father reminds him what's the first rule.  Dexter replies not to kill innocent people, he says no first rule is not to get caught and letting Lumen live will only lead to her going to police about Dexter.  In true form though Dexter turns around the situation following an escape attempt by Lumen he drives her to the lake where Boyd dumped the bodies of the other women, informing her that this is what would have happened to her if he had not stopped Boyd.  Dexter relays to her that his wife was killed by a man like Boyd and he wants no more innocent people to suffer, could that man like Boyd be Dexter himself? or do you think it was the the Trinity Killer from series 4?

Last night also saw Debra and her department hot on the heels of the Santa Muerte killer, who has been terrorising the town, beheading his victims and leaving the head as some sort of shrine or trophy.  They caught up with two possible suspects at a house that was well over capacity but were unable to apprehend anyone as Debra was face to face with one of the killers who was holding a sword to another mans throat.

What I initially thought was a bit of a boring episode actually turns out ok, and it certainly thickened up a couple of back burning story lines, as well as opening another one.  That is of course at the end of the episode when Lumen informed Dexter that Boyd was not the only man involved and what happened to her and lots of other women is not over.  Dexter will now surely make it his business to find out who the others are and attempt to kill them.

This Weeks Top Movie Release: Holy Rollers

Friday, 8 July 2011

The top new movie release this week is something that I mentioned here a while back now.  Holy Rollers is a film brought to us by Director Kevin Asch and was written by Antonio Macia, the movie initially aired at the Sundance film festival in 2010 where it won the Grand Jury Prize.

The movie stars Jessie Eisenberg, who starred in the movie the Social Network playing Internet billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, also starring is Justin Bartha who starred alongside Nicholas Cage in National Treasure.  Ari Graynor, Hallie Eisenberg and rapper Q Tip also star in what looks like a very good movie with an idea that may well have been used before but not in this way.

Made on a budget estimated to be around $1m, it does not come with quite the same hype you see with most movies these days but, what you do get is what looks to be a great story line with great characters built into it and you often find that movies like this are better than some of the big budget releases anyway.

The story follows Sam Gold (Eisenberg), a young Hasid growing up in a Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, he is studying to become a Rabbi and has had a marriage arranged on his behalf.  His neighbour Yousef Zimmerman (Bartha) notices that a young Sam is starting to resist the ways he has been taught and offers him the chance to transport some "medicine" for a guy named Jakie (an Israeli drug dealer).  Sam is quick to impress with his business like mind and is quickly taken under the bosses wings becoming involved in the shadier side of Manhattan and Amsterdam nightlife.  Sam samples Ecstasy and his double life soon begins to tear his family apart, he is now forced to make a decision that could bring the whole drugs operation down.

The Killing Episode 1 & 2

The highly acclaimed and much anticipated US crime drama the killing started on Channel 4 last night with an impressive two part opener.  The show was such a hit in America that cable network AMC have already ordered the second season, with that in mind how hopeful are we that there will be a conclusion to the story by the end of the first series?

The show is very quick to get into story lines not only involving the plot but also the characters who are involved, bringing together the local politicians, police force and the family of a missing girl.  The shows tag line is "who killed Rosie Larsen", so we already know that the young girl has been killed although this is not revealed towards the end of the first episode.

Building up to that moment though is a great story centered around what is a very low key (not public) police search for a missing young girl, this does at times give you a bit of a thought.  Is she really dead or is this some plot twist that you are not expecting?  It's not.  Rosie would appear to be a typical 17 year old girl, she isn't allowed to do certain things at the weekend so simply makes up a story that she is staying at a friends in order to do something else.

Two detectives are assigned to the case, Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) who is just about to leave Seattle for a move to California with her son and Fiance, the move is of course put on hold whilst she is working the case of the missing girl.  The other detective Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) who is going to be Sarah's replacement when she leaves, he brings a little bit of light heartiness to the show.  There are no Armani suits like in CSI and what you have is a real story, which is a lot closer to what cops are like in real life as apposed to what we usually see on TV.

Rosie Larsen is found drowned in the back of a car which has been dumped in a lake, we soon learn that the car is registered to the campaign of a local councilman Darren Richmond (Billy Campbell), he would appear on the face of it very helpful and up front towards the police investigation even cancelling a press conference at the local school to help police conduct their enquiries.  Politics soon take over though and his advisers are trying to talk him round to doing a press conference outing his rival for senate.  They are worried that not saying anything will muddy his name and give the opposition the upper hand.

The story is set to take many twists and turns and from the first two episodes of the show the police have still not made it public that they have found the body of Rosie Larsen, as far as everyone is aware it's just a missing persons inquiry which will hopefully be resolved.  The show is very gripping and some tense dark and creepy moments do come when you think what is coming here?  The story and the actors involved in it have been chosen superbly, don't expect any laughs watching this gritty drama but do expect the story and it's characters to grow and develop as the series continues every Thursday night at 9pm on Channel 4.

Top TV Tonight: The Killing Channel 4

Thursday, 7 July 2011

Tonight sees the two part opener to new US hit TV show The Killing, the US version of the show has been adapted from the Danish hit drama Forbrydelsen which was re vamped into English on BBC4 a while back now.

The series is set in Seattle, Washington (the second TV show based there that I've talked about today).  The story is based around the first 13 days of a police Investigation into the death of a local teenager Rosie Larsen who is found drowned in the trunk of a car.  The case is given to Detective Sarah Linden who is about to relocate to California with her son and Fiance, her plans are however put on hold as the investigation grows more and more complex.

Evidence eventually leads down a path towards Rosie's teacher Bennett Ahmed, however the police are not able to make anything stick.  Rosie's mother then talks her father into exacting revenge, he does so beating Bennett into a coma before coming to realise that he is in fact Innocent.

Leads twist and turn in what has been a massive hit in the US, and the UK audience should find it no different, I will be watching the two part opener tonight and will hopefully review it in the morning.  Not heard of it then check out the trailer below.

True Justice Starring Steven Seagal

Now like me you probably wont have even heard of this show, and I have to be honest here.  Don't worry your not missing much.  The show enjoyed it's UK premiere last night on 5USA, a digital channel which should have set alarm bells ringing from the start.  Even if it was on Channel 5, 5USA's parent channel you really shouldn't be expecting to much.  Against my better judgment I decided that I would watch the show last night, thinking that Steven Seagal is in it surely it can't be that bad, ergh yeah it can.  In fact I think I would rather have watched Jo Frost Supernanny on Channel 4, at least there I may have learned something.

The show is a 13 part TV series which stars Seagal as Elijah Kane, the leader of a elite group of undercover cops.  The show clearly didn't even have producers convinced as they have toyed with the idea of releasing it as a 6 DVD movie set, with the first two (Deadly Crossing and Street Wars) already being released.

Based in Seattle, Washington I thought maybe the show had aired in the US months earlier, turns out.  No.  American TV networks would appear to have steered clear of this truly awful TV show.  Instead it enjoyed it's worldwide premiere on Nitro, a Spanish TV station (I didn't know that when I watched it).  Other than Seagal there are no famous actors in it, simply just bit part actors from obscure TV shows and afternoon TV movies, again alarm bells should be ringing that this hour of TV could well be a waste of my time.

Starting off last night saw some guy at what I think was a gas station in Seattle get blown away by someone with a shotgun with a witness managing to escape into the near by undergrowth.  The child scared to her wits decided to hang around there until the cops arrived, they pulled her out the bushes and low and behold she speaks Mandarin, how fortunate for the main character Seagal who has of course spent most of his life living in that part of the world.

Back at the station the child witness is being debriefed with an interpreter when she sees and cop and starts going mad, now I don't speak Mandarin but it doesn't take a genius to work out that she is clearly saying the cop she has just seen in the station is involved in the shooting that took place at the gas station.

You get to see the typical Seagal style, you know he keeps getting surrounded by bad guys kicks their asses whilst all his team stand and watch in amazement, yeah it's that bad.  I'm surprised they have made a 13 part show out of it to be honest, and if they do release any more DVD movies of it then I wouldn't recommend them.

The best part of the whole show was during the ad break, when the new Coors Light beer advert came on, the ad stars Jean Claude Van Damme an if you haven't seen it yet, then check it out in the video below it's definitely worth a couple of minutes of your time.

That Van Damme commercial has had more than 383 thousand hits on YouTube, probably more than True Justice enjoyed during it's season premiere and probably more than it will achieve during it's whole run.

The show is nothing more than a glorified daytime cop show with a little extra blood involved, no storyline to get your teeth into and actors so wooden they may as well have been standing still for an hour, so my verdict of True Justice on 5USA is simply.  Don't waste your time.

Falling Skies Season 1 Episode 1 Live & Learn

Wednesday, 6 July 2011

This is the new Sci-Fi actioner brought to us by FX UK every Tuesday at 9pm, the show is produced by none other than Steven Spielberg and has been getting massive hype both here and Stateside.  We knew enough about the show from preview that it relates to an alien invasion of earth and is based on a group of survivors staging a fightback against them.

The first episode aired here in the UK last night and as promised I watched it, the first episode of the show had some real promise and I really think this could have a successful run, being produced by Spielberg the show is sort of an extension of War Of The Worlds, without Tom Cruise.  The big aliens aren't quite as big as they were in the movie but the similarities are there to be seen.

I was really impressed with how the show opened, I was expecting something a bit like Independence Day, you know.  Everyone going about their business then all of a sudden some mother ships cast a shadow upon the earth before smaller crafts stage an attack.  Not this time, the beginning of the show is shortly narrated by children who are part of the surviving group.  Along with their narration are there drawings of the night the aliens came.  Jumping from that you are straight into the action with Tom Mason (ER'S Noah Wyle) and his son Hal (Drew Roy), they are in the middle of a battle with the invading aliens.  They have been out to collect food for the surviving Human population, this is the first glimpse really of the World's comparison as the aliens metal structure and big beaming light searches the street obliterating anything in it's way with a laser.

We learn quickly that there are around 600 survivors, or at least that's what they suggested in the first episode.  The aliens have developed a way of detecting larger crowds so they decide to  split up and leave the city to find more food, go to ground and be safe whilst they come up with a strategy to defeat the alien's superior army.
This sets up the story really.  Tom is put 2nd in command of the unit 2nd Massachusetts a group of 300 survivors who are lead by Commander Weaver (Will Patton), and some great back up from Dr Anne Glass (Moon Bloodgood) who will surly become the love interest of Tom as the series unravels.  Also you have Tom's son's firstly teenager Hal, who is helping out with the fighting then the younger son Matt (Maxim Knight), the family aren't without their troubles as Tom's other son Ben (Connor Jessup) has been taken hostage by the aliens.  As with all of the children the aliens have attached some sort of spinal device to them which allows them to control their minds, if the device is removed from their backs then they die.  The show has a great mix of everything you would want, not only do you get great action but you also get a story of the characters you are watching.  The special effects are also good but, bear in mind it is a TV show and not a movie therefore the budget is not as big.

The show really looks like it's going to be worth an hour or so of your time every week, nothing to thought provoking just a good Sci-Fi actioner as I've said that's provides you with exactly what you want in a TV show.  Entertainment.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 2 Firing Blanks

Tuesday, 5 July 2011

You may remember I talked about this show yesterday when I reviewed the first episode, last night saw the second installment of the new comedy drama on Channel 4.  Remember I was telling you that the story was based on a blog and that was my reason for first watching it, yeah?  Well the second episode I'm pleased to report was even funnier than the first and I really hope this show is getting a longer run than three episodes, I think three more may be in the pipeline but they aren't named yet.

Last night saw Stuart telling his Ambulance crew buddies that he fires blanks, this is all whilst they are in the emergency room casting over some of the dregs of society with Stuart proclaiming that he is pleased that he is biologically incapable of adding to the ranks.  Being on a bit of a high in this episode Stuart manages to get himself a date with Angie a student and Eco-campaigner he met a couple of weeks back.  this is where the laughs start.

Angie already has a boyfriend or at least a friend who she seems to get a long pretty well with, if you know what I men.  Stuart pops round to the house and Angie kisses him coming through that door, nothing wrong with that right?  Well there wouldn't be if Angie hadn't just finished servicing her boyfriends manhood with her mouth.  Stuart immediately reacts by saying what is that taste but is not to put off and ends up in bed with her.  The hilarity with Stuart and the boyfriend continues with Stuart eventually finding the boyfriends pants on the bedroom floor and discovering what the taste in his mouth was.

Don't let all of that fool you before Stuart finally managed to bed Angie he was having some problems which may require him to watch a certain advert involving legendary footballer Pele, we soon learn that these problems are linked to his father who he has not spoken to in 17 years but called him only a couple of days back.  Stuart agrees with his Best Mate Maxine, the Police Sergeant and decides to ring his father knowing that his erection problems won't be put right until he faces him.

Maxine plays a big part in the story, along with the fire department in this episode.  The police, ambulance and fire service all seem to attend incident's at the same time no matter what the problem.  Stuart and his ambulance buddies are simply trying to get there before the firemen in order to pick up any hot girls that maybe at the scene.  We also know from last week that cop Maxine really fancies Sturat but hasn't told him yet, she decided that joining a dating website was the best way forward.  She gets a date with some guy who turns up to take her out with his opening line being "you look nice, well better than your photo's anyway".  I'm no expert on women but I'm pretty sure that's not the best line to come out with when going on a date.  The date goes horrendously as the guy is driving his car around with no documents causing Maxine to make him stop and check his credentials.

Other than that, last night we saw Stuart blow a gasket with a lady for phoning an ambulance when her son had a cough, especially as he was only trying to get out of doing sports at school.  Stuart informed the woman that her son would now have to be blue lighted to the erergency room for a dose of Tixylix (kids medicine).  We also saw Ashley on the brink of finding love with Maxine's partner who is gay.  He overheard a conversation in the ER between Ashley and Rachid which gave him the heads up that Ashley was gay also.

So that's the second episode for you, like I say hopefully we are going to be seeing plenty more of Sirens on Channel 4 this year.  Tomorrow will see my first review of Falling Skies which goes out on the FX channel here tonight, cheers.

Upcoming Movies MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PPROTOCOL

Monday, 4 July 2011

It's time for some news on a new movie to look forward to now with the first trailer of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol coming out this week.  We are going to have to wait a while to see the finished version unfortunately as it's not released until December 26th in the UK, that's Boxing Day in case anyone was wondering and it's about time they released a good movie around Christmas as well as all the other movies they put out at that time of year.

The return of the mission Impossible series is highly anticipated and sees the return of main Character Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), and it is yet another J.J Abrams movie to look forward to this year and was also co produced by Tom Cruise as were the other movies in the franchise.

Most of the main characters are back for this one including Ving Rhames and Tom Wilkinson added into the mix this time is Jeremy Renner who plays Brandt, then you have Josh Holloway from hit TV show Lost he plays Trevor Hanaway and finally British comic come movie star Simon Pegg gets a part as Hunt's gadget guy Benji Dunn.

The plot terrorists decide to bomb the Kremlin causing the US Government to activate "Ghost Protocol".  Ethan Hunt and his Mission Impossible team are blamed for the attack and their office, the IMF is shut down.  The team are allowed to escape to work outside of their agency but are warned if anyone is to capture them then they will be charged as terrorists.  Hunt is then forced to team up with fellow IMF agent Brandt who knows more about Ethan Hunt and his past than what Hunt knows himself.

Now, I don't know what you think but that looks better than the first three movies.  It's been that long since I saw the first one all I can really remember is the big fish tank thing pouring onto the street and the other two movies, well I can remember Tom Cruise spinning 360 on a motorcycle and shooting someone to stop the Chimera virus, and then the third movie I don't remember much about that one at all other than Lawrence Fishburne was in it..

One thing is for sure this installment looks like it will be right up there with the first two movies and will no doubt be a hit worldwide.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 1 Up, Horny Down

This is the new comedy, drama which will be going out on Channel 4 every Monday night at 10pm.  Last week saw the first episode of what will be to now only three episodes by the looks of things.  I wasn’t really sure weather to watch this show or not but since as it’s based on a blog (what your reading now) I thought I’d give it a go.

The show follows a group of Paramedics the leader Stuart played by Rhys Thomas, he’s seen it all before working for the Ambulance service for some time.  Then you have Rachid played by Kayvan Novak, a great dead pan comedy actor who didn’t disappoint during the first episode, then you move onto Ashley played by Richard Madden the other old timer in the service who plays the bounce off role with main character Stuart.

Last nights episode was called Up, Horny Down, a little strange I know but it refers to the feeling that the Ambulance technicians will get after they have attended a traumatic incident.  That is of course what they do at the start of this episode when they attend a car accident and Stuart is forced to perform open heart surgery on the occupant of the vehicle.

Following that he finds himself in a bit of trouble with his boss as he is not supposed to perform that type of surgery on someone at the roadside, he along with his colleagues is sent to see the psychiatrist.  All of them apart from Rachid make a mockery of the feelings they will get and go on to have a normal day, well for them anyway.

The laughs really start to come when the Horny feeling kicks in and the Knob and ass jokes are in free fall, yeah they are pretty stupid gags but you can’t help but laugh when you hear it (maybe I'm just childish).  The funniest moment for me had to be when Rachid was getting his horny feeling, he manages to cover his modesty with a colander and has invited a young lady around for an afternoon of entertainment, I have scored the net to get a picture but unfortunatly was unable to find one.

The show showed some real promise during the first episode and I will be watching it every week from now in order to provide the review on Tuesdays.  If you want to check out the blog the show is based on the you can go here Random Acts Of Reality.

Must Have Songs For Your iPod Week 17

Sunday, 3 July 2011

I suppose this is the second post on this topic today following the review of Lady Gaga that went out this morning, here for you now though as always I give you all the best tunes of the week that you ought to be adding to iPod or MP3 player.

First up this week it's that DJ again.  David Guetta has teamed up Niki Minaj and Flo Rida to bring us Where Dem Girls At.  Guetta has had massive success lately a collaboration last year with Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas and then earlier this year the song "Who's that chick" which featured Rhianna.  This new song is no doubt going to be a summer hit especially on the clubbing scene.

I'm going to be in trouble this week, don't worry hopefully it's not to serious.  I'm just worried about my regular reader and commenter Ruben and his questions regarding the music I listen to.  That's only because I've mentiond Flo Rida, this song includes Taio Cruz and the last song has artists similar to that effect, do you see where I'm going here?  This song is called Cryin Over You by Nightcrawlers a dance act from the 90's, no I hadn't heard of them either.  The song features Taio Cruz like I said, check out the video below.

Nightcrawlers at Amazon - Cryin' Over You (Jorg Schmid Remix)

Last up this week is Tinie Tempah, anything this guy touches seems to turn to gold at the moment and this new track Till I'm Gone featuring the equally impressive Whiz Khalifa is going to be no diffrent, the song comes from Tinie's album Disc-overy but is only availible on the US version, you can buy that at the Amazon link below and in the mean time check out the video below. I will tip this to be number 1 in the charts in the next week or two.

That's a great tune right?  Like I said below is the chance to buy the US version of the album at Amazon.com, that track is included on there and there are plenty of others to enjoy to which I'll hopefuly get round to mentioning here in the next week or two.

Lady Gaga on the Paul O'Grady show

I have had this one in the pipeline from a couple of Friday's back for you when Lady Gaga was invited to do a special on the POG show in England, she came over to perform and be interviewed.  As you know my regular reader and commenter Ruben gave me an idea a while back after asking me to take a look at the Black Eyed Peas performance at Superbowl 45, we all know how that went.  Ruben suggested that I review Cee Lo Green and Lady Gaga, Ive done the Cee Lo one so here goes with Gaga.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (Lady Gaga) is a 25 year old pop singer who is single handily changing the way in which pop music is viewed pushing it's boundaries of acceptance with every new release and costume that she wears.  Like most people I have always thought who is this crazy lady?  Wearing meat dresses, outrageous sunglasses and wigs.  I saw she was coming onto the Paul O'Grady show for a special, I would not normally watch the show but thought as I don't know a lot about this girl I'll give it a go, and I'm pleased I did.

Far away from the brash and bolshy young woman you see in the papers and magazines lies a truly great person, who comes across very intelligent.  She knows exactly what she wants and where she is going in life.  A nicer and more down to earth person you could not wish to meet.  All of her interview she paid massive homage to her millions of fans across the world, and being a victim of bullying in her younger years stands real proud to deliver a message to people of all ages to simply just rise above it and remember it it the bully who has the complex issue and not yourself.

(Above Lady Gaga performs Hair)

I have to say I was not expecting such a nice level headed down to earth girl when I switched the show on but man was I impressed with how well she presented herself and the people who work for and with her.  I am not the biggest fan of her music but can name some songs that I like, I have seen her perform live at the Royal Variety Show once and thought she had an amazing voice so I was looking forward to see what she had in store for us on the night.

(Gaga performs Bron This Way and Judas)

(Edge Of Glory Live)

Now I know other than when she is sitting at the piano there are times in the other songs where it is debatable weather she is singing live or not but, it is very enjoyable and these are some of the Gaga songs that you must have on your iPod or MP3 player

This Weeks Top Movie Release: Transformers Dark Of The Moon

Saturday, 2 July 2011

My regular readers will remember that I had the trailer for this movie on here months ago now and everyone was pretty excited about the movie then.  As always the movie rated as best here last week, well second best actually has taken the most at the box office this week with over £2m in sales, I'm of course referring to Green Lantern.

Starring this time.  Shia LeBouf is back for his role as Samuel Witwikey, unfortunately though no place for Megan Fox as his girlfriend she is replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley a British actress and model, and in my opinion a lot fresher faced than Megan Fox.  Also back is Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel for their roles in the U.S Air Force.  And finally John Malkovich takes a small part alongside Patrick Dempsey.

This installment of the movie takes us on a little history lesson first of all, as president John F. Kennedy charters a space mission Apollo 11 to the moon in 1969, this is a cover to put a man on the moon to investigate the Ark, a spacecraft that crash landed on the moon in 1961.  The Cybertoranian craft was piloted by Sentinel Prime and was carrying "The Pillars", which was the technology that could save the Cybertoranians.

In the mean time back in the present day the Autobots are working hand in hand with the U.S Government, they are on a mission in Chernobyl when Optimus Prime discovers a fuel cell from the Ark which the Ukrainians had been using as a power source causing the Chernobyl disaster.  On making the discovery Optimus awakens this movies bad guy Shockwave and now it is an all out race between the Autobots and Decepticons as to who will reach the Ark.

Dexter Season 5 Episode 3 Practically Perfect

The title of this episode says it all really, has Dexter slipped up and not covered his tracks I'll get to that soon but first lets check what else was going on last night.

You may remember yesterday we had the first guest post on the blog from regular reader and commenter Ruben, who provided us with a catch up from the end of season 4 and the first episode of season 5.  Personally I'm pleased he done that especially for me as some of the scenes and names mentioned in this episode made a lot more sense to me having read the review.

The show started with a recap of Dexter killing someone in a barn, I'm presuming that was the one Ruben was referring to when he mentioned about Dex committing a murder without any sort of forward planning and more of a spur of the moment type thing.  Also introduced in the recap was Kyle Butler the fake name Dexter used when he became friends with the trinity killer and his family.

Dexter started the third episode looking for a babysitter, that was quite amusing.  And is that the cutest kid on TV right now, seriously he could be in a remake of Jerry Maguire "The Human head weighs eight pounds", it's not really important I know but thought I would mention it.

Boyd Fowler now, you know the guy I referred to last week who cleans the roadkill from the highways.  We knew he was next on Dexter's hit list.  Dexter has found the perfect building all he needs to do is lure him there somehow.

The shrink also decided to pay a visit this week, clever as they are she seems to think that Dexter's son Harrison won't be affected by the trauma of seeing his mother murdered.  Dexter of course knows different he saw the same trauma at the age of 3 along with his brother and just look how he turned out.  Did anyone notice the side story of the head in the part surrounded by candles last week?  yeah, well that happened again this time to a local guy who is believed to have supplied some information to the police.

Dexter finally managed to run into Boyd again at a local coffee shop as if by accident.  Dexter introduced himself as Darryl Tucker, not his real name I'm sure.  This is where we see Dexter at the derelict building he will be using to kill Boyd, and that guy pops up again.  You know Lord Rayden from Mortal Kombat or maybe you know him as the guy from Sex and The City, is he Dexter's dead father?  Following that Dexter returns home to find the new babysitter and his son missing from the house, with what's happened all sorts are running through his mind then in they walk, she says to Dexter "I left you a note on the fridge" his reply "I'm not used to checking the fridge for notes, just messages from other serial killers".

Dexter then gets his opportunity to nail Boyd when he goes along to work with him for the day, he calls in a fake alligator road kill near to the derelict building he has set up.  Once there he attempts to get the needle into Boyd's neck only to be shot himself with a tranquiliser gun.  Boyd maybe knows more than he is letting on, they go to hospital and both promptly escape with Dexter returning to Boyd's house in what had to be one of the creepiest scenes I've seen.  This time is goes to plan and Dexter kills the guy only to be seen by a woman being held hostage in Boyd's closet, if you saw it then did you notice Dexter overall "NATURAL BORN GRILLER", quality a little humour thrown into a dramatic situation.

As we know, or as far as I know Dexter has never been suspected of anything during 5 seasons of the show but, it seems now that his sisters work partner maybe onto him.  He was sitting piecing together a photo fit alongside Dexter's picture and a look at next week shows his suspicion raised even further.

Without doubt this has been the best episode I have see so far and episode 4 looks like it will be even better, can't wait.

Ruben's Dexter Ep 1 Review

Friday, 1 July 2011

Since Marty missed the first episode of Season 5 (as well as Seasons 2, 3 and 4) I am summarizing episode 1 here. Read no further if you have don't want the ending of Season 4 given away (but except for episode 1 won't give away what happens in Season 5).

The first episode of Season 5 picks up where Season 4 left off: Dexter arriving home to find his wife, Rita, dead  (having left the show to play a superhero on a now cancelled TV series). Dexter's baby was left crying on the floor in a puddle of his wife's blood.  Thus Dexter's son experienced the same type of traumatic event that led to Dexter and his brother becoming serial killers.  The two older kids were not home at the time of the murder.

All indications to the viewer are that Rita was murdered by the Trinity killer of Season 4.  It was done in Trinity killer style, but differed slightly from his usual M.O.- enough to raise suspicion of being a copycat killing.  Both the FBI and fellow cops are very suspicious of Dexter, especially with his lack of emotion to the whole situation. It didn't help that Dexter said something like "I did this" when the police arrived at the murder scene. I think Dexter said that because it was his fault the Trinity killer got revenge.

Most of this episode was Dexter trying to figure out how he should act so others don't realize he is an unemotional psychopath.  We also get to see a bit too much of the boring drama unrelated to the Dexter serial killing. The boring stuff has always been a weakness of the show, but I guess you need some of that temper the good parts. This season the dull subplots are shaping up to be two different office troubled romances at the police station, Dexter looking for baysitters, and two older children being cranky grieving teenagers.

This was still a pretty good episode with Dexter committing two murders. The first was a flashback to Dexter's first date with Rita and how he managed to slip away during the date to get his victim.  The second murder was out of the ordinary for Dexter, since he did it with anger on the spur of the moment, and was not being careful about not getting caught. He didn't even know if the victim was a killer, but his behavior was so obnoxious that he must have had some felony offenses.

One last thing that viewers who missed Season 4 should be aware of: Kyle Butler. That is the
fake name Dexter used in Season 4 when he became friends with the Trinity killer and his family.  Dexter killed the Trinity killer, but everyone in his family and church has spent plenty of time with Dexter, but knows him as Kyle Butler. When the Trinity killer disappeared, so did Kyle Butler, and nobody knows where he is.

Well a big thank you to Ruben (top reader and commenter) for that one, and congratulations on being the first guest post here on the blog.  I don't know about you but after that I think Ruben ought to start a blog, what do you think?  Thanks again Ruben I'm really looking forward to episode 3 tonight.

Shameless US Episode 2

I said last week that I would give this show another go as from the first episode I really wasn't to sure what to think but like everything you should give it a second chance.  I'm pleased I did this episode was a lot better than the first and funnier to.  William H Macy really stepped up this week in his portrayl of Frank Gallagher and hopefully it is a sign of things to come.

Last nights episode saw Frank go missing, as we know he is just a layabout alcoholic who has never really been anywhere outside of Chicago.  Frank started the show visiting his local bar and got headbutted off the father of the a young girl who his son had been using shall we say, this forced Frank to go home and headbutt one of his sons.  Fiona's boyfriend reacted badly to this and went toe to toe with Frank only to be stopped by Fiona.  Not getting his own back he kidnapped Frank put him in the boot of his Bentley and drove him to Toronto in Canada.  The funniest bit of the whole headbutt incident in the bar was the fact that Frank had almost a full pint of beer, and guess what?  He didn't spill a drop, now that's a true alcoholic.

Frank ended up in a Canadian Jail

Frank returned to Chicago eventually hiding in a fake wall in the back of a camper van as he has no passport to cross the border, he went back to the bar and spoke with the guy who headbutted him leaving quickly hoping to get some action from the guys now single wife.  That worked out pretty well for frank and he got some action but maybe not what he was expecting.  The guys wife Sheila (Joan Cusak) turns out to be a bit of a nymphomaniac and has a rather large instrument that I can only imagine went up franks rear end as he was walking pretty funny, however he seems to like it and looks like he will be moving in with Sheila.

I don't know about America but here in England the first two shows have been on for an hour and a half a little to long if you ask me, an hour would suffice.  Good thing we have Sky+ (DVR in America) so we can forward all the ad breaks.  The series showed real promise last night and gave some great laughs, a taste of things to come would be Emily Rossum with her top off quite a bit, and also the Gallagher's next door neighbours, they are pretty raunchy to.  That's a little scoop from one of my readers Glen, Stateside who runs the blog 1Man365Movies, be sure to check it out.  I'll be back later today with this blogs first guest post written by regular reader and commenter Ruben who has provided a catch up from season 4 and the first episode from season 5 of Dexter.
