It was during that Christmas schedule again, what can I say? When there is nothing good to watch TV show wise I always turn to movies and Rambo was the pick of the bunch that night, I have seen it before on DVD but I definitely enjoyed it enough to watch again even if it was just to see the cocky cockney gets his comeuppance off John Rambo, or “boat man” as he referred to him.
Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Matthew Marsden and Graham McTavish
The Plot
John Rambo is now living the simple life catching snakes in Thailand for local entertainers as well as chauffeuring locals along the river in his boat. Rambo likes to keep out of trouble but it always seems to find him. He is approached by a group of Christian human rights missionaries who want to rent his boat and have him take them up river into war torn Burma, eventually he agrees dropping them off at their desired location. They get captured though, and before long Rambo is taking in some ex military to help get them out, little do they know that he’s John Rambo.
The Verdict
Strong bloody violence, extreme bloody violence actually pretty much everything you have come to expect from modern day action movies which don’t involve some sort of Kung-fu. I have to say that I thought this was a great movie, the ultimate one for guys really, there’s not really a lot here that would appeal to ladies other than military men’s torso’s.
I know there is no real story to the movie like what you get with First Blood or First Blood Part II but, like I always say does it matter when you enjoy a movie? You really shouldn’t take this to seriously either the thought that a man in his 60’s can single handily take down the Burmese army is a little far fetched but if he wasn’t doing that then there would really be no movie to be made. This fourth instalment of the Rambo franchise came two years after Rocky Balboa was brought to our screens, a movie that I also really enjoyed. Rambo set the ball rolling again on the classic 80’s action movies with a little added (because you can get away with it now) blood and gore and Stallone has followed it with The Expendables, and Expendables II coming out this year.
I really don't have to much to say on this movie, much like Sly himself I will just stay quiet. I loved it as you have probably guessed but Rambo is not for the faint hearted, don't be expecting any lovey dub romance or anything like that. Rambo is very much about violence, blood, war and a lot of swearing. If you don't like any of those things then this is not the movie for you, otherwise sit back and relax with a beer and enjoy everything this ultimate "guy" movie that Rambo has to offer.
Would I watch it again?
Tomorrow, without doubt.
