Sirens Series 1 Episode 6 - Cry

So the best comedy show on TV has come to an end, that's right last night was the final episode of our weekly dose of Stuart, Rachid and Ashley in Sirens.  All we can hope now is that it rides on it's obvious success and we get a second series.  For all the readers who come here for the music and reviews from the show then make sure today is the day you click on the RSS button on the top right, follow me on twitter or like the site on Facebook, that way you won't miss any news about a second series and you never know you may well enjoy the rest of the postings here.  On with the show now.

Stuart is a superhero. that's why this show is so good!  He's not really that's just the way they introduced the show last night whilst little Stuart was stuck to the garage door courtesy of a crossbow arrow, I also thought as this is my most read posting I could plug the superhero poll that's running here this week, it's over on the right be sure to leave your vote.

Good to see that the laughs were back this week, there weren't to many the week before.  The scene in the bar first off with Ashley and Rachid.  Rachid's ethos is you should make a rule on making love after any type of news, good news, bad news, bank holidays.  Not pancake day though it's the lemons.

The name of this episode was "Cry" that was to do with Stuart being able to grieve for his father, in order to help him achieve this he decided to pop around to see his step mother where he was introduced to a brother that he didn't know about.  His step mother Yvonne says just look around the house there are signs of your dad everywhere, he looks straight over at the side board to see a novelty mug sporting a pair of breasts, if you didn't find it funny I would be very surprised.

Rachid had a really big part to play this week and as usual the guy was hilarious, he was partnered up with fat Karl for most of the episode.  Karl has toilet troubles so while he was waiting Rachid was sitting watching the girls go by, whilst grading their bums on a scale of 1 to 10, very funny and something that most guys would probably do.  Just after that fat Karl returns from the toilet to be asked "nice ____" you can guess the word right?  It just reminded me of that scene in Borat where he is at the Americans house for lunch.

Stuart was also supposed to be attending his fathers funeral in the episode, he decided against it at first going to work and responding to an emergency call of an unresponsive 4 year old male, they get their pretty quick as you would expect an ambulance to, only to find an old guy has rang the ambulance service and the 4 year old male he is referring to is his pet budgie, currently in it's cage doing the backstroke.  This gave Stuart the opportunity to watch a video his father had kept of him when he was younger prompting hime to go to the funeral.  Only to be pipped by 10 minutes and not make it at all.

I'm really going to miss Sirens it's one of the most original and well put together comedies I have seen lately, right up my street really, a mix of everything and just the fix you need for your Monday night relax after your first day back at work.  I just hope like I said above that Channel 4 decide this is worthy of a second series.  I'm sure Brian Kellett has got plenty more stories on his blog that Stu, Ash and Rachid could make extremely funny.

Now as always you want to know what the music was used in this weeks episode, and guess what?  This week I can't find it Brian Kellett has not even published it to his page, so lets all just remember that great intro music from Little Barrie it's called Surf Hell and the vide is below.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 5 Stress

On we go with what is surely the most popular TV show in the UK right now, and can you believe it, there is only one episode left.  They must be going to do a second series surely?  As always we'll have a recap of the episode along with a laugh and then I'll tell you all of the music that was used on the episode.

Titled Stress, you can probably guess what this episode was about?  Stress that's right.  That is not in relation to work related stress, more on Stuarts part who has seen love of his life Maxine begin to run off with her hunky Fireman.  Maxine is also feeling the pressure though due to the afore mentioned Fireman not returning her text messages.  The two of them are having slight wobbles at work in situations they would normally deal with no problem.  Of course on Stuarts side that means Rachid and Ashley are going to take the mick, and as you would expect they do so in spectacular fashion.

First off the guys get called to an incident of mass outrage of public decency at some junction with the A1, I'm thinking 20 guys or girls or both maybe standing flashing their bits at cars on the flyover, I was wrong it was a car park full of doggers, one with his arse stuck up against his windscreen as he had put his back out whilst he was on the job you do wonder how Ambulance, Fire and Police are able to keep their laughs in with some of the situations that they face.


The best gag of the night came from Rachid when he placed two toy figures in the ambulance, one was a police officer and the other a fireman.  The figures were placed over the dashboard (need I say more) all in an effort to wind up Stuart.  I liked the word bingo game the guy's played also, what's that?  Well basically the guys have attended so many stress management meetings they know the key words the therapist will use, so in order to have a bit of fun they each note down a list and mark them off as they are mentioned before finally shouting "House" in the middle of the course.

If you weren't a fan of Sirens and last night's episode was the first one you watched then you probably didn't get it.  Last weeks episode King Of The Jungle was by far the funniest with this one taking a more serious note.  It set's things up nicely for next weeks finale and then we can all hope their will be a second series, come on Channel 4.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 4 King Of The Jungle

This show is clearly very popular, whilst it was on TV last night ratings here on this site went through the roof, most people of course looking to find what the amazing soundtrack was that the producers have matched to various scenes.  So as always I'll give you an episode recap, a review and then go through the best tracks of the night with a link to the full track listing.

King Of The Jungle was the name of the episode and this refers to the alpha male stereotype.  Woodvine (the boss) is threatening to break the lads up and pair them up with different people, this prompts Stuart to try and excerpt his authority in the ambulance over the other guys whilst promising to Woodvine that they will tighten up on their targets.  Stuart is facing tough competition for the alpha male role from Rachid who has taken a liking to driving the ambulance which leads us to believe his credentials for learning to drive fast may not be legitimate ones.

This has to be the best episode yet, both the story and the laughs got you from start to finish last the battle of Rachid and Stuart was hilarious.  The opening scenes with the ambulance attending 3 diffrent scenarios.  Rachid thinking of some profound medical reason for the pain the patient was in whilst Stuart on the other hand was keeping it simple knowing it was a case of mis adventure.  The guy with the carrot up his ass, hilarious.  Rachid's reaction he didn't need to say anything just the look on his face, I needed to pick myself off the floor in order to watch the rest of the episode.

Brian Kellett the ambulance driver who this show is based on must be loving this show, to see his book and blog come to life in such a funny way, it is clearly entertaining and has been a massive hit for Channel 4, hopefully we will get a second series or more episodes to add to the first, there are only six remember so only two left.

Aplha male has been mentioned loads now and the theme continued with Ashley who has been hoping to go out with the cop for the last couple of weeks, I thought Ashley was the one most comfortable with himself being gay and all, turns out he's not.  He is in search of an alpha male to take control in the bedroom department.  They finally get to go out but Ashley makes a stereotype that is inappropriate in relation to the cops manhood and the date is cut short.

It was a good episode for Maxine to, her alpha male was a guy who she met through the Internet dating site she has been using.  There was a pretty awkward moment for the guy following the sex scene when Maxine asked how he would rate her out of 10, 6 and a half out of ten seemed to be a better mark then she was expecting.

All in all this episode has been the best one yet, definitely the funniest and the soundtrack was awesome to, speaking of the soundtrack lets go through that below.  It worth bearing in mind that some of the music is quite obscure and you'll be lucky if you find it on YouTube.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 3 I.C.E

This show is really starting to turn out better than I expected, you may have noticed it's already crept into the most popular list and at the rate it's going won't be to long in taking over Luther. I have been getting a lot of visits and comments from people who are looking for the various songs that are played throughout this show, so in the interest of keeping everyone happy I'm going to make a note of all the songs I know and research the ones I don't to try and give you some answers.

Rookie technician Rachid found himself of the down side of the Up, Horny Down feeling this week as he attended an address and found a guy hanging up in his shower cubicle along with a suicide note.  This sets of Rachid on thinking that he can't be a bachelor for the rest of his life and decides he wants his lady friend to be a bit more permanent.  Next scene his lady friend pops up from his crotch area to ask him what's wrong as she has been doing it for twenty minutes now and her jaw is going numb, is it really that big?, lucky B......!

Simon was having a dilemma last night to, when he called his "in case of an emergency" number, or "I.C.E" number as they call it.  A guy answers and informs Simon it's not his phone as he stole it out someones bag the week before, that would be the person Simon was hoping to get in touch with.  Not a word is said to the guy, you know?  Like how dare you steal my friends phone for instance, he simply says to the guy "ok sir have a nice day", just then it switches to the guy sitting alone in his flat just about to ingest and overdose on Heroin.  It was funny but maybe you have to see it.

Rachid decides the best way forward for his girlfriend plans would be to invite Sarah (Tuppence Middleton) his lady friend around for what he informs her will be DVD first, sex later.  I'm not sure that's wise, I'm no expert but most would fall asleep during the DVD and that equals no sex, bad times.  Anyway things get a little to serious for Sarah who confirms that she doesn't even like Rachid and was only sleeping with him out of pity, now dumped he is severely down and finally cracks.

Throughout the whole episode he has been haunted by the image of the guy he cut down from the shower, so back at the hospital ER room he finally confirms he has been affected by what he saw, screaming at the guy he thinks is there "f@*k off, and leave me alone", that just so happens to be outside the shrinks office who hears him and offers him in for a chat and a good old cry.

Now like I said at the top I get a lot of people coming here looking for the music that is played in the background, so here goes with what music I knew and could find from last night;

My favourite song of the whole show is the title music, it's by a band or guy, I'm not sure. They or he are called Little Barrie, no I hadn't heard of them either the song is called Surf Hell.

The scene where the guys are in the ambulance, the music is by KT Tunstall and it's called come on get in.

The song at the beginning of the episode when Rachid finds the guy in the shower is by Magnetic Man Ft Katy B and it's called Perfect Stranger.

The song Gangster Trippin by Fatboy Slim was also in the show last night, the scene where Rachid was skateboarding in the back of the ambulance. 

The song near the end where the old guy is lying in the bead is called Winter Beats and is sung by I Break Horses.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 2 Firing Blanks

You may remember I talked about this show yesterday when I reviewed the first episode, last night saw the second installment of the new comedy drama on Channel 4.  Remember I was telling you that the story was based on a blog and that was my reason for first watching it, yeah?  Well the second episode I'm pleased to report was even funnier than the first and I really hope this show is getting a longer run than three episodes, I think three more may be in the pipeline but they aren't named yet.

Last night saw Stuart telling his Ambulance crew buddies that he fires blanks, this is all whilst they are in the emergency room casting over some of the dregs of society with Stuart proclaiming that he is pleased that he is biologically incapable of adding to the ranks.  Being on a bit of a high in this episode Stuart manages to get himself a date with Angie a student and Eco-campaigner he met a couple of weeks back.  this is where the laughs start.

Angie already has a boyfriend or at least a friend who she seems to get a long pretty well with, if you know what I men.  Stuart pops round to the house and Angie kisses him coming through that door, nothing wrong with that right?  Well there wouldn't be if Angie hadn't just finished servicing her boyfriends manhood with her mouth.  Stuart immediately reacts by saying what is that taste but is not to put off and ends up in bed with her.  The hilarity with Stuart and the boyfriend continues with Stuart eventually finding the boyfriends pants on the bedroom floor and discovering what the taste in his mouth was.

Don't let all of that fool you before Stuart finally managed to bed Angie he was having some problems which may require him to watch a certain advert involving legendary footballer Pele, we soon learn that these problems are linked to his father who he has not spoken to in 17 years but called him only a couple of days back.  Stuart agrees with his Best Mate Maxine, the Police Sergeant and decides to ring his father knowing that his erection problems won't be put right until he faces him.

Maxine plays a big part in the story, along with the fire department in this episode.  The police, ambulance and fire service all seem to attend incident's at the same time no matter what the problem.  Stuart and his ambulance buddies are simply trying to get there before the firemen in order to pick up any hot girls that maybe at the scene.  We also know from last week that cop Maxine really fancies Sturat but hasn't told him yet, she decided that joining a dating website was the best way forward.  She gets a date with some guy who turns up to take her out with his opening line being "you look nice, well better than your photo's anyway".  I'm no expert on women but I'm pretty sure that's not the best line to come out with when going on a date.  The date goes horrendously as the guy is driving his car around with no documents causing Maxine to make him stop and check his credentials.

Other than that, last night we saw Stuart blow a gasket with a lady for phoning an ambulance when her son had a cough, especially as he was only trying to get out of doing sports at school.  Stuart informed the woman that her son would now have to be blue lighted to the erergency room for a dose of Tixylix (kids medicine).  We also saw Ashley on the brink of finding love with Maxine's partner who is gay.  He overheard a conversation in the ER between Ashley and Rachid which gave him the heads up that Ashley was gay also.

So that's the second episode for you, like I say hopefully we are going to be seeing plenty more of Sirens on Channel 4 this year.  Tomorrow will see my first review of Falling Skies which goes out on the FX channel here tonight, cheers.

Sirens Series 1 Episode 1 Up, Horny Down

This is the new comedy, drama which will be going out on Channel 4 every Monday night at 10pm.  Last week saw the first episode of what will be to now only three episodes by the looks of things.  I wasn’t really sure weather to watch this show or not but since as it’s based on a blog (what your reading now) I thought I’d give it a go. 

The show follows a group of Paramedics the leader Stuart played by Rhys Thomas, he’s seen it all before working for the Ambulance service for some time.  Then you have Rachid played by Kayvan Novak, a great dead pan comedy actor who didn’t disappoint during the first episode, then you move onto Ashley played by Richard Madden the other old timer in the service who plays the bounce off role with main character Stuart.

Last nights episode was called Up, Horny Down, a little strange I know but it refers to the feeling that the Ambulance technicians will get after they have attended a traumatic incident.  That is of course what they do at the start of this episode when they attend a car accident and Stuart is forced to perform open heart surgery on the occupant of the vehicle.

Following that he finds himself in a bit of trouble with his boss as he is not supposed to perform that type of surgery on someone at the roadside, he along with his colleagues is sent to see the psychiatrist.  All of them apart from Rachid make a mockery of the feelings they will get and go on to have a normal day, well for them anyway.

The laughs really start to come when the Horny feeling kicks in and the Knob and ass jokes are in free fall, yeah they are pretty stupid gags but you can’t help but laugh when you hear it (maybe I'm just childish).  The funniest moment for me had to be when Rachid was getting his horny feeling, he manages to cover his modesty with a colander and has invited a young lady around for an afternoon of entertainment, I have scored the net to get a picture but unfortunatly was unable to find one.

The show showed some real promise during the first episode and I will be watching it every week from now in order to provide the review on Tuesdays.  If you want to check out the blog the show is based on the you can go here Random Acts Of Reality.
